[SunRay-Users] disable shutdown and reboot in KDE

To test the deployment of CentOS 6.3 and SRS 5.4.1 I have setup a
virtual maschine on our VMware ESX server. The server is setup running
gdm as login manager providing Gnome and KDE desktops.

After some fine tuning everything ran fine except for the shutdown and
restart buttons in the KDE menu "Leave". Gnome did not show them at all.
I can't find any hints at Google except for disabling them in gdm -
which is working fine. Maybe some of you have had the same problem and
can help me resolving this issue.

The user based configuration file ~/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc
provides an option [General] offerShutdown=[true|false]. Setting this to
"false" only works on a user basis. Does anybody know of a global option
to configure this as server default and overriding the user based setting?

kind regards and thanks for help

This may help:

http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=108530

The more important question, of course, is not whether the
shutdown buttton is visible but whether the user has the
right to issue a shutdown command.
Unfortunately, different linux flavours use quite different approaches.
I have no idea how CentOS does it. Group rights? pam_console?

Regards, Meik

Hi Meik,

first of all many thanks for your fast answer. I tried to send my answer
yesterday but used the wrong unregistered Email. Sorry for the delay.

I gave it a try and copied
/usr/share/kde-settings/kde-profile/default/share/config/kdeglobals to
/etc/kde4/share/config/kdeglobals as the latter does not exist on my
centos. After that I made the entry in /etc/kde4/share/config/kdeglobals
as described in the KDE forum.

This setting does not work. Maybe it's special for SuSE Linux. Only the
entry in
/usr/share/kde-settings/kde-profile/default/share/config/kdeglobals does
work but does not override the user setting.

I think it will be better to ask future question about this in the KDE
forum. So again thanks for the hint.

And to answer your question: I think I have to do a lot more fine
tuning. The server does not restart or shutdown but gdm does not come up
again after logout.

cheers
Andreas
